20th April P2 Mini Elevator Pitch

MINI ELEVATOR PITCH

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
You will learn to:
  • Put together a mini elevator pitch
  • Understand the SCQA technique
  • Analyse problems and solutions to help with app design
This is the final opportunity to test your ideas. HAVE YOU GOT IT RIGHT? It will probably take this lesson and half of next lesson to complete this. We will then move on to practise app design skills using App Shed. Those of you with the technical skills can the look at Java or other application.

Look at the following videos of mini elevator pitches:

  • What in particular are the students trying to describe?
  • How do they know that they have identified a legitimate problem?
  • Do you think their ideas will work?
  • Do you envisage any problems and if so what?
PUT TOGETHER YOUR PITCH
Working in your teams using the ideas and materials you have collected put together the mini elevator pitch. It should be no more than 90 seconds and should try to address the following:

SCQA
S What is the situation or problem you are describing? Ask yourself is this really a problem?
C What is the complication that this problem leads to?
Q What particular question or aspect of the problem are you going to address?
A What answer or answers is you app going to provide.

Your pitch must also include:
  • Your team name.
  • The name of your app.

When you are satisfied that you have got the pitch right your best speaker should read the pitch out to the group.

Elevator Pitch Summary Post

Your team leader should reply to this post with a summary of your elevator pitch. Be sure to state your team name and the name of your app.

Presentations and feedback
Each team will make their pitch
Each of you will have a feedback form where you need to note strengths and weaknesses of each team's pitch and app idea. You will later comment by replying to the blog post with your feedback. This is important as it will help each team to design a good app.

We will have time for two questions after each presentation.

Homework

Using the notes that you have made on your feedback form you need to reply to each team's post showing the summary of their pitch and idea. Try to show one strength and one problem that they may encounter. Use proper sentences with a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end.

      You need to say how we will be including more than just two features. Although they are the main two they are not the only ones we will create.

      Your work is good at making the app look good even if it isn't. You have not just said the features but also said why the features are useful.

      You need to use shorter sentences (not ramble on), be more specific, not report yourself and be more personal with your audience. Apart from that, an excellent try! Well done!

      You have said what the purpose of the app is and what it does but some people may not have access to more that one device to send a notification to.

      Lovely analysis of what the app does. However, you do need to be more personal with your audience and be more engaging. Also, be specific on your target audience. Well done!
